For many, home is a place a refuge. Your sacred space away from other places you deem sacred, and for many, “where the heart is.”

However, most people do not view their bodies as a home for their spirit and soul. “Homebody Knows” is a reminder to go within to find what you’re looking for. Too many times we look for things outside of ourselves to create comfort. The homebody, an individual who prefers to stay home, in this piece, it’s reflective of the individual that’s choosing their self, their thoughts and ideas, and actions. Not own in the typical sense of possession, but in the form of full embodiment.

Homebody goes so deep, they come out knowing what is better/best for their self, their environment, and how they can contribute to the whole. Going in allows the knowing to unfold, an important factor in spiritual growth. Sometimes outside stressors cause us as individuals to go in, whether physically remain in our dwellings, or internally within ourselves. That is okay, to a degree. We must always seek to maintain our fluidity within a multitude of environments. Still, it is okay, and necessary for the individual to become a homebody – remembering your body is your true home, something we must keep clean, hold sacred, seek to understand, seek to accept and love unconditionally – allowing your knowingness about self to unfold.

“Homebody Knows” was originally created in a sketchbook with various black sharpies after several back to back deaths in my family. Always looking to be alone, or away from people, this piece started upon the feeling of being overwhelmed and full with grief.
